No one prepared me for that. I was just at a wedding, and there were many game of thrones fans there. They all said, if you thought all that was shocking, just wait! They also recommended that I read all the books that are out so far, before watching any of the show.
Where did we leave off?
Unlike the book, which drags on the suspense of Ned's fate. I'll tell you what happens:
Sansa in her naivety, her blinding infatuation with the "Prince", she pledges her allegiance to him, and then begs for the "Prince" now "King" Joffrey, to have mercy on her father.
Joffrey rings the bells, and says women are weak, and beheads Ned Stark in front of the entire King's Landing people. Even Cersei has no power or support on this decision. Sansa is devastated, and shocked.
Also unbeknownst of everyone in the world, Arya watches from the crowds, but Yoren turns her eyes away from the beheading. She is shocked, blinded by rage and lashes out in violence. The poor girls.
Sansa is heart broken for days, and then she is manhandled by her "King", who she finally sees clearly with her eyes. He tells her 1- that his mother and he both think she is stupid 2- that she must say pretty things, be pretty and smile; she is his trophy 3- that if she disobeys him, he will teach her a lesson. Classic spoilt, evil, rotten bratt, riding a wave of power. I await his most harsh fall. Till then, poor Sansa, though awake, it's too late, she is stuck in the grasp of the lion.
Previous to the beheading Arya had been living off of pigeon meat, on the streets, living as a hobo. She saw the fish that still awaited herself, Sansa and her father, at the docks. However she dared not reveal herself. Also all other exits out of the city were closed. She is a tough kid, and with a wooden sword, boyish clothes, and needle she survived the streets. The next book starts with her chapter.
Tyrion engages in battle with the Stark Army Host headed South on the King's road. Lord Tywin's army comes out on top. Tyrion gets a new hooker to chill with and string along - Shae. Will she be of any importance in the later books? Lord Tywin get's some shocking news, and calls council. He actually, for once, considers Tyrion's opinion, and recognizes him as a son, ans sends him hastily to King's Landing to rule!
The news Tywin received that shocked him was this: while they were fighting Starks army on the King's Road, Robb and his crew, along with Catelyn stormed and 1- passed and allied with the Twins 2- sent a few of the kids up north to Winterfell, 3- siezed Riverun 4- Captured Jaime Lannister! This is the best news ever!
They don't kill him cause they think they can exchange him for Ned. Ned is killed thanks to Joffrey's brilliance (or ruthlessness, and power high). So they should kill Jaime, but they are idiots ofcourse. The good are always more merciful than the wicked, and that is their folly. Cersei is fretting, and so is Tywin, the Kingslayer (Jaime) is so precious to them both. Joffrey plans to go kill everyone with the city watch, at Riverun. Tywin goes down to Harrenhal for some reason. Battle plans.
In the mean time, late Kind Robert's youngest brother goes and proclaims himself King, or King of the South. This enrages everyone. Renly isn't loved by too many, ie. the Stark Host, the Lannister Host, or his own brother Stanis, who dwells at Dragonstone. So more story there in the next book.
Then we see Bran, and Rickon, having the same dreams, of their father talking to them in the crypt. The bird arrives the next day, with that very news. Bran is now lord of Winterfell in Robb's absence; they wait patiently for Robb and Catelyn's return. In the mean time the kids sent up from the Twins are trained at fighting etc. Bran learns the stories of the children of the forest, and the weretrees, All fascinating, but relevant how?
Further North, Jon receives news of his father's death and rides south at the dark of night. His brothers in black stop him. They reason with him and turn him back. Ser Mormont makes him his squire and makes him swear it.
Dany in the mean time makes the poor decision to have a Maegi heal Drogo after a battle and plunder. Dany out of compassion takes many of the women as her slaves, she feels she is saving them even after they are half raped (raped by only 2-3 of the blood riders, as opposed to raped by all the blood riders). If only Dany waited for the Eunoch healers, then this maegi wouldn't have caused such a loss. As Dany tries to nurse Drogo back to help, we witness her compassion and love for the Khal, her baby, and we see her love turn t rage when she sees he is dying. She asks the Maegi to use blood magic, and she does for a price. The price is the loss of her child, and many a death within the Khalasar. The Khalasar slowly disbands, although Drogo lives, he is not the same. He is like a passive zombie or Frankenstein. She decides to put him out of his misery one day. Also her own female-hood is left broken. So she cremates the Khal, a horse, the Maegi and her eggs. The lives burnt, give life to the eggs... they hatch and she has dragons nursing at her breast in the end.
Next we begin "A clash of Kings".
